Default GedcomParser

Hi,

I'm looking for the GedcomParser in the download for Ch 19 of XSLT and XPath Programmers Reference, 4th Edition, but I don't see it in the zip package.

I wonder if there are some files missing that you could post, including the text resolver?

Thanks
Peter

As far as I am aware the GedcomParser is a project developed to parse the GED file format. A quick look through chapter 19 I couldn't actually see it mentioned (but I'm sure I missed it). I found its homepage here: http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/ghosts/

However, seeing as the GedcomParser isn't written using XSLT it really falls well outside the scope of the book.

Hi,

It is mentioned on page 703 of the 3rd edition and 1063 of the 4th edition, but I've never found it available for download as it says in both books. It is pertinent to XSLT, as writing a parser is the only way to get a binary file into XSLT program without some external conversion software.

Maybe it is outside the scope of the book. You should take that up with Michael Kay. But it is one of the reasons I bought the new edition - to learn, from Dr. Kay, how to write a parser.

Thanks
Peter

Yes, it was my intention to include it in the download file, but it seems to be absent from the downloads for both the 3rd and 4th edition. It's still available however in the download file for the second edition at
