The XSLT/XPath data model does not have any entities or entity references, there are just text nodes with Unicode characters. If you want to process certain characters and mark them up in a certain way (for instance a color) then, with XSLT 2.0, you could use xsl:analyze-string http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt20/#analyze-string.
