I didn't know Michael Simon was in the Web Design business ;]
Anyway.
"...the most effective and widely-purposed web language there is." That inquery is a matter of opinion. I am an ASP.NET guy and I find that it is effective and widely-purposed but, I am sure, a PHP guy would say the same thing about PHP.
You are talking about 2 different things here. The skillset that is required to write games is a completely different skillset then a Web Design Business. For games you are probably looking at needing to learn Flash/ActionScript (unless you intend to write the games in Java) where Web Design can range from needing simple HTML skills to understanding how to create, implement, and maintain N-tier applications.
Can you be a little bit more specific about your questions?
hth.
