Default New Language

Hello, i am a novice web designer and have learned a cuople of different languages. Among these are Java, HTML, CSS, and JSP. Im trying to decide what my next move should be. Should I continue learning about JSP and Java or start a new language like php or asp? Ahat is the difference between the two anyways? My overall goal is to one day design some sort of online game and start up a web design business, so i need to learn the most effective and widely-purposed web language there is.

-Thanks for your help

I didn't know Michael Simon was in the Web Design business ;]

Anyway.

"...the most effective and widely-purposed web language there is." That inquery is a matter of opinion. I am an ASP.NET guy and I find that it is effective and widely-purposed but, I am sure, a PHP guy would say the same thing about PHP.

You are talking about 2 different things here. The skillset that is required to write games is a completely different skillset then a Web Design Business. For games you are probably looking at needing to learn Flash/ActionScript (unless you intend to write the games in Java) where Web Design can range from needing simple HTML skills to understanding how to create, implement, and maintain N-tier applications.

Can you be a little bit more specific about your questions?

hth.

when i say widely-purposed, i mean a language that i can use for the most amount of purposes. I want to be a web designer which means I need to be able to, well, create whatever my "customer" wants. I want to be able to create user interfaces, message boards, blogs, attrative web pages, and be able to plug java applets into them. That is what I loved about JSP. But unfortunately I can't find any web hosts out there that support JSPs. So, ive been looking into php and asp, and im leanin more towards php. But what do u love so much about asp? or is that just the language you learned 1st? Anyways, for a q u can answer, what are the advantages of asp, and the advantages of php? Thanks again!
