Andy: You nailed this one, our concern about what images would be uploaded. Because we're a publishing company and worried not just about risky looking images but also about copyright (for instance, we couldn't allow Simpsons or other copyrighted cartoon images on our forums that are so popular as avatars on many forums) we'd have to monitor and approve every image. We have enough members, new members, and attempted spammers that we don't have the resources to monitor images. So the only people who are allowed to upload images for signatures and avatars are employees and authors. Sorry about this drawback but we hope you're getting value from the forums anyway.
