I have been working slowly through the book Beginning Access2002 VBA, and every now and again run into a similar small problem where I have to rewrite my code at least twice to get it working...EVEN though it is identical to the origional code I wrote the first time. Is this normal and has anyone else experienced this?

No, this is not normal. This never happens to me. I suggest reinstalling the Access 2002 and seeing if this continues.

I have experienced the same in Excel VBA, due to lack of time or maybe just laziness I did not bother to declare my variables explicit.
After doing this it all works fine.
