Default access2000-compact on close

hi there,

i have 15 front ends that connects to the sql server. the data will be kept locally before it uploaded automatically every 2minutes to the server.every front ends is differ from each other. i want to set each mdb to compact on close and will have my users to open and close the database every one week.

1. when it close will it create a compacted database and delete the
   old database automatically?

2. will it automatically change the name of the compacted database to
   the previous name?

really need an advice...thanks alot.

Access automatically does all of the compact and repair. It just makes sure that any ampty space is removed. Almost like defragging your hard drive.

so it means i just have to change my database option as compact on close(check it) and let my user open and close the database. this will automatically replace my old db to new one with a same name everytime they close the db? i am just a little worried because my users have no knowledge on access. and i dont want them to change the database name each time it compacted.

1. the compacted databasae will have the same name? i am asking this because previously i set it as compact on close in one of the front-end and the db changes name as db1 automatically after compacting. i do not know why it happen?
thanks alot for your advice. i really appreciated it
