John-
I have just tried to open the table in m1 and i have had the same error message:" ...is not in expected format" after the instalation of SP7 on m2.

Installing the service pack on the server won't help. The data is being fetched by the client machine - m1. The service pack must be on that machine.

I have now that the table is Paradox 7.
My machine is the client running WinXP and i will make sure that it has SP>5
downloaded(is the one with the error message).The server runs Win98 and it
sure has SP7 downloaded and it runs OK with paradox table.
