SOAP WSDL and AJAX need a professional help

Hallo everybody,

I am a newbie about webservices. What we need to do is to create an AJAX application which sends a SOAP request, receives the response elements (like getElementByName ) and accoording to this SOAP response I have to also get an XML file. They say it ies easier with WSDL combination but I don't have any idea. Can anyone giove me an example? I am really stuck.
