I am not sure what you mean by console, in Tomcat 5 the Tomcat Manager is available from the tomcat home page at localhost.

Sorry if this is not what you wanted.

Command Line Console

In a console window, go to the root directory of Tomcat.
Type cd bin.
Type startup.
You will see a console window appear with messages till u shutdown :

If you use any of the IDE, the console screen is common for IDE & Tomcat, where you can see the Startup, build details, application etc.,

a) On Win you start ../tomca/bin/startup.bat console is open
b) If you have Eclipse, get sysdeo plugin Tomacat and you have tomcat console in Eclipse

2) On Linux not so shure I have some problems with console in stdout or in Eclipse. Tomcat loger write same data but not evrithing what i saw in console on Windows:(
