I am just starting to look into ASP.Net. Can somebody tell me what the best books to get started from the ground level, I know some asp, but there are quite a range these asp.net books. Also do I need Visual Studio to build ASP.net sites? Is there an alternative to this application, I cannot afford to buy this for myself and everything I've seen uses this application.
