Default What is IIS?

Hi there,

Its a newbee to this forum, not to this development.
I'm much confused abt IIS, how it works and what functionality it provides? Could any body there plz tell me this.
how it differentiate between .asp and .aspx pages and whatever others?
what is the difference between PWS working on Windows 98, IIS 5.0 and IIS 6.0?.

.NET files has a extension of .aspx where as ASP has .asp basic difference apart from that
1) ASP.NET has better language support, a large set of new controls and XML based components, and better user authentication.
2) ASP .NET provides increased performance by running compiled code.
3) ASP .NET code is not fully backward compatible with ASP
IIS is a application server basically gets the files you need or techanically handles the browser requests.
