This is my first dealing with the Wrox Site.
I have been thru Bill Evjen's book several times and have had to develop many workarounds. I am finishing a 30 webpage app using the Beta 1.

1. Is there a Wrox site that lists corrections to his book?
2. My ISP says he will not support the Beta 1 (or 2) framework.
I could use some help locating an ISP who will.
3. I signed up for a $5. discount on a book for the Beta 2. When
   will it be coming out?
4. Latest problem: Listing 8-16 (SMTP web.config) is incorrect. (No <add element)
Anyone have a fix for that?
Thanks.

1. The corrections for this book would be at:
http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTit...ew_errata.html
However, other than the error you mnetion in point 4, I don't have any errors other than grammar and spelling that have been reported to list there.

2. Microsoft's list of hosters who support beta 2 is at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/beta2/hosters/

3. The $5 discount applies to final release versions, not beta 2 books. We're only publishing 1 beta 2 book.

4. I'll forward that error to the author.

Thanks for the info. I am eagerly waiting to get the beta 2 product.

I am a bit confused as to whether Wrox is coming out with a book on the Beta 2, or they're waiting to write one for the production version.

See'in as how there is a considerable amount of time from the introduction of a
beta 2, to the final product, there could be a large number of folks who would buy the Beta 2 book.

If a Beta 2 book is in the works, do you have even a tenative date when that might come out?

VV

VV: Sorry if my response wasn't clear. We're not publishing a beta 2 version of Bill's book. Bill's next ASP.NET book is "Professional ASP.NET 2.0" and will be published on the final release version of the software. It isn't listed on wrox.com yet, but you can already pre-order it from retailers, including Amazon. This is one of the several books eligible to complete the $5 rebate with the beta 1 book you already purchased, following the terms and conditions on the rebate card in the book.

The 1 beta 2 book we are publishing is "Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 Databases Beta Preview" and it's available now. You can check it out on our site or order it from any retailer including Amazon.

It also comes with a rebate card to get a $5 rebate with any of the final release books, again according to the terms and conditions on the card in the book. What we didn't think of though, is extending the rebate offer to customers who buy 2 beta books (the beta 1 book by Bill Evjen and the beta 2 book by John Kauffman). While they are both eligible for rebates with a final release book, we didn't think of the possibility of readers buying both beta books to include that in the rebate. Sorry.

Jim:
Thanks for the clarification.
I will be waiting to hear what Bill comes up with for a fix
to my original question #4.

I would like to be a beta testor for Bill Evjen's book for the
release version if you have such a program and he needs such people.

I would imagine he is writing in now or soon will be.

A few facts about my own credentials:

I have been in IT since 2nd generation IBM machines (7074,7090 class).

Been writing in Microsoft VB since it came out.

I am MS Certified in MS Visual Basic as of VB5.

Recently switched to writing ASP apps since I believe interactive websites
is going to be the new cutting edge.

I am an extreme nitpicker -- examine every word of every sentence type of guy --
the kind an author can count on to not let a single error slip by.

Thanks.

VV
