Default Trouble connecting with .mdf file and admin tools

hi

I'm using the released version of vs2005 and i have sql server 2005 installed (not the express version) when i ran the install of vs it wouldn't let me install sql server express edition (maybe because i already have sql server 2005 installed) I'm trying to associate my web page with db and to use the web site administration tools(security, roles managemement etc) that i have created in sql server 2005 and it seems to do that i have to create/add the .mdf file to the app_data folder. However it wouldn't let me do it until i detached the db from sql server and moved it across however it still comes up with this error

connections to sql server files require sql server express 2005 to function properly.

so i can't view it or anything...

also although the tables for role management seem to have been added, when i go to use the web site administration tool and click on security it says there is not sql server database attached and nothing i seem to do seems to fix this problem..

any help much appreciated, i've been still trying to install the express edition without much luck!

Michelle

i managed to get onto the configuration section by changing the connection string but still not quite sure it's working properly!
