If you have Office 2003 that is not true, you can open the file directly. But you are correct, in versions older then 2003 you must save the file first.

Yes, and only one of our users has Excel 2003, so it is better if we just "train" them to automatically save the file. Thanks - I really appreciate the code, I searched all over the microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb newsgroup for help, and the one person who responded said that it wasn't working 'cause I didn't have Excel loaded on my machine...I do, and the code from here is proof that it works! Thanks so very much!
