Default Trouble with WAT tool in shared environment

I am trying to develop a website on a shared server, when I select the 'Administer Website' link from the Login Control I receive the message:

Error Invoking 'Ad&minister Website' Details:
The Web Site Administration Tool is only spported on localhost and disk based web sites.

1) are the misspellings in the error message known or do I have a corrupted version of Visual Studio?

2) Do I need to develope the membership and roles components on my local machine first and then FTP them up to the shared remote server? My site is located on a .Net server with 20 other sites and my database is on a seperate shared SQL2000 server. Does VS2005 standard edition support developement of website and the WAT in these shared environments?

Feeling very unsmart today - Thank you

Hi!

Did you ever find a solution to this problem, I've spent the past 2 days trying to look for a way to administer users of a web site hosted on a remote server with no joy whatsoever!

Did Microsoft not realise that people would want to adminster users once they decided to publish to a remote server??!!

annoying.

Hi,
I'm having the same concerns. I also spent quite some time to figure out why Visual Studio doesn't allow to administer remote servers... but could not find any answers !

I also could not find the wat on the remote server.
I'm pretty sure that this is very easy but no way to find it.

If anyone could help with this, I would appreciate !
Thanks.
P.
