Default Learning ASP.NET 2

Hi,
I am not new to web development as I have been using Dreamweaver, PHP and Mysql, css etc for a couple of years and have created a couple of CMS driven sites for friends.
I am however new to ASP.NET2 and have been working through the book: VWD 2005 Express starter kit. I am unsure if I am being stupid or not but when I work through the book, I am not totally understanding things. I am missing some theory or supplementary knowledge that would open things up for me?
I know I am starting off, so I just want to make sure that what I am getting from this book is a taster before I go a bit deeper into
ASP.NET2 with the other Wrox books I bought (Beginning, and Professional ASP.NET 2).
Should I also be studying VB or C# before I get into ASP.NET2 or can I get by and learn these lanaguages concurrently with ASP.NET2.

Regards
Dmlocke

Before going into ASP.NET, you should learn the base languages that it is written in first. I would say learn VS.NET 2.0 or C# 2.0. Many people have preferences in the two. VB since it has been around for awhile and tried and true. C# because it is new and is said written more for the .NET platform than the others but you choose.

Once you learn those, you will have less to focus on when you go to ASP.NET as you will know the base language.
