Default Best book for script developer to learn ASP.net?

Hello,

I am a scripting language developer, fluent in ASP3 and PHP5, and I need to figure out how to use ASP.net as soon as possible. I am looking for a book to help me that will take my current knowledge into account and teach me what I need to know in order to make the transition from scripting languages to the more traditional programming of ASP.net.

I know nothing about ASP.net and I assumed it was simply ASP 4. I was shocked and confused that it is nothing like a scripting language!

So if someone can reccomend a book (preferably Wrox, I learned ASP 3 from their Beginning ASP 3.0 book which was great) to someone who knows PHP and ASP, but doesn't understand a thing about ASP.net, I'd appreciate it. There are so many out there I don't know where to start.

Well, Obviously as the editor, I have some bias here but I highly recommend Wrox's own:

Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 with C#.

In addition to being a good and thorough book (although smaller than the old ASP 3 book you had), it has a very active and helpful forum here at Wrox.com.

If for some reason you really prefer VB to C#, you could go with the VB version which is just called Beginning ASP.NET 2.0:

But it doesn't sound like you come in with a specific leaning toward C# or VB so I'd recommend the C# book. Most of the more advanced ASP.NET 2.0 books you'll come to later do more work in C# than VB, so starting with C# will help better prepare you.
