Default Custom Web Parts Layout

Anyone have any success allow users to choose custom web parts layouts? What I'm looking for is allowing the user to choose from different basic page layouts. It seems like the solution is going to involve supporting multiple pages and a redirect. If there is a better solution that someone knows about, that would be great.
