Default Wierd asp:FileUpload problem

Hi All,

Thank you for any info you have on this. Very much appreciated.

I have a page that has a file upload control which had been working fine for at least a couple of years now. The problem now is that I get a "Page Cannot be displayed error" on the page. I am not getting the error on three other development servers, only on the production server, but I don't get the error on the production server if I'm logged on to it through RDP. The only permission that was recently changed was that we added a temp folder on the C:\ drive to process Crystal Reports through .NET. Other than that there have been no major changes to the server.

There are three drop-downs on the page that fire on selected index changed. Sometimes I'm even getting the error when those drop-downs post back. However, sometimes I can get as far as selecting a file to upload and then submitting the page before I get the "Page cannot be displayed".

If I remove the control from the page completely, I never get the error on post back of the selected index changed drop-downs.

I don't get the error when using Firefox, only with IE 6 and IE 7 which is weird too.

This info would lead me to believe that it is some sort of permissions problem on the production server but I don't see it. I even had Everyone with full permission, ASP.NET Machine account full, Internet Guest full, and Launch IIS Process Account modify to no avail.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Richard

Hi Richard,

Does it matter if you upload large or small files? Does the page contain an AJAX UpdatePanel? And is there any other client script involved in the page?

And what does the Event Viewer of Windows tell you? Maybe there is server side software that messes up your page?

Other than that, I don't know what to suggest. It's difficult to fix such a solution while bing logged on to the machine; it's near impossible to do it remotely... ;)

Hi Imar,

Thanks so much your reply.

The file size doesn't matter at all. Sometimes you can't get as far as the submit. It will error sometimes on the postbacks from the drop-downs. There is no AJAX in the app at all. No other client script on the page. There are no errors being generated in Event Viewer for either Application or System. And its not the usual type of yellow and white screen .NET type error. It's that old "Page cannot...." one.

No major software changes on the server. I did load VS 2008 on the server after the error started happening so that I could debug on the only machine that had the problem. Haven't had a chance to debug on the server. Need to do that after hours.

putt-putt-putt... Uh oh... out of gas. I won't give up though. Just need to refuel.

Hey, I can log into the machine and it does seem impossible to fix!

Thanks. Very much appreciated.

Richard

Very strange. Unfortunately, I don't know what else to suggest...

Cheers,

Imar

Yeah, I know. There's this problem and I've started getting "SQL Server Internal Error" problems on the box with a query that has been running for a couple of years??? I think it's time to just rebuild that box and take it from there.

Very much appreciate your replies.

Thanks,
Richard
