Default Gridview with 6000 records gives Server Error

I have a gridview with close to 6000 rows. The page will load and display all 6000 rows, but if I try to filter the data, or save the data I get an error and the page says Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

If I reduce the records from 6000 to 1300 I do not get any errors and can filter/update/save without issue.

I do not think it is a timeout issue, but have added the following to my aspx page:

Code:
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" >
<head id="Head1" runat="server">
    <title>GridView Table</title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="/library/css/MyCSSFile.css" type="text/css" />
</head>

<%  Server.ScriptTimeout = 180%>

<script type="text/javascript">
...
</script>
But do not think that the script is timing out.

The query bound to the gridview does not have any parameters as it is simply a data dump of the table.

Using Fiddler it shows an error, with the result of 500, but the body is 0. When I try to open the error, Fiddler just hangs and stops responding.

Any thoughts on how I can find what the issue is, and/or prevent it from happening?

Thanks
