Default Difference between website and web application.

What is the difference bertween an ASP website and a ASP web application. Please no recommendationns to Google or referals to buy a book. I'm asking this question in this forum to hopefully get an explanation that is more concrete than what I can read on the web or in a book. I was wondering are forums more for asking questions about a problem or error that you are getting while you are developing? I have found that most of my best answers to questions have been regarding a concept than a "I need help fixing something". The reason I think the fixing something question is difficult is because of the diagnostic or troubleshooting steps it takes to figure out what is wrong which in my experience have been very laborious because it's hard enough trying to fix something in person yet alone in a forum. By the way people get paid for fixing problems , it's called Tech Support. The reason why I ask most of the questions that I ask is to hopefully avoid putting some poor guy through trying to figure out my isssues, and then he or she ends up frustrated with me and I get frustrated with them and it ends in a Lose Lose situation.

Thanks In Advance

Why not? My book Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 has a whole section devoted to the differences. So what's wrong about books? After all, you are on a publisher's web site. Also, what's wrong with Google? It brings up useful stuff like this article:
http://www.compiledthoughts.com/2008...n-project.html

Not sure what you expect from a forum like this one. A free ride? A replacement for reading books and useful sites and doing your own work? If that's the case, you'll be done with this forum pretty soon.... ;-)

Forums are to *help* you, not do the work for you. So, a question like "what's the difference between a field and a property" is either ignored or yields bad results, as a 10 second Google search and half an hour of reading gives you ten times more information than any forum post. Additionally, it's a stupid question to answer for people willing to reply as it can already be found elsewhere. A question like "I understand the differences between a property and a field as explained here and there (with here and there linked) but I am still having troubles figuring out when to use what. Can anyone shed some light on that?" is likeky to yield much better results.

Also, real world courtesy applies to on-line communities as well. If people take the trouble to write a detailed post as a reply to your question (like here and there), a quick "thank you" or some other means to show you at least got the message is typically much appreciated.

Without applying these kind of rules, you won't have much fun, luck and results in on-line forums.

Cheers,

Imar

Iceman, thanks for trying to find Imar's book. I checked around and found that of the two dozen Borders Bookstores in Southern California, half are out of stock on his book, but the other half have it.

When your arms eventually grow tired of hauling the Unleashed book around, call around for Imar's book. At just 38 millimeters (Imar is from the Netherlands, go go metric system!), it will save you some strain. Plus it's a great book, of course.

If quantity is what you're after, consider getting a copy of the LA phonebook.... Otherwise, Beginning ASP.NET may indeed be a good option... ;-)

Amazon has it in stock and so do many other on-linee book vendors: http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-ASP-.../dp/047018759X

DavidM: thanks for promoting the book.... ;-)

Cheers,

Imar
