Default Using PEAR

Hi

I would like to know the advantages of using PEAR:DB
over the php mysql functions like mysql_connect() etc..
is there any specific reasons for using PEAR:DB over php functions?

ThX

The beauty of PEAR::DB is that you utilize generic functions in place of, for example, mysql_connect() so that your finished product is portable between database variants. Some say that the added layer translation results in a noticible performance drop.
