ASP.NET Website Programming: Problem - Design - Solution, VB.NET Edition

I am running IIS on my laptop and have created dozens of web sites and (virtual) directories on it. But... The code that I downloaded for this book does not run on my system (WinXP Pro & SQL Server & VS 2002). I get the HTML & server side code, not the site. I thought that I had screwed up .NET framework, but when I created another default.aspx in VB.NET, everything went fine.
Any help is appreciated.

P.S. I am not getting any errors while compiling. It is just that it looks like the virtual dir is not set up to run .net. SQL Serv. DB is ok too.
