Question Ch 1: Installing Java and Android SDK in Linux Environment

If this is the wrong forum to ask this question, please let me know.

I have a copy of "Beginning Android Application Development" and wish to install the Eclipse, Java SDK, and Android SDK software on a Linux box.

I've found the software to be downloaded, but am puzzled about the "proper" (i.e. "usual") location where it should be installed in the Linux tree.

I'm concerned about installing it in such a manner that I will later run into problems working through the examples in the book.

Can anyone point to a tutorial or other instructions on how to setup the necessary development environment on a Linux machine.

Thanks,

Wes
