Default VB: Insert <p> tag

While following the Try it out - Creating a static page in Chap 3, I noticed that text I typed in Design View did not acquire paragraph tags automatically. How can I fix this?
The build threw up an error that said text was not allowed between the <body> tags, so I assume this means that text must be contained in a <p> or <div> (or similar).
