Hi there,

Make sure the 'AKASMIKA-PC\AKASMIKA' account has sufficient permissions to the databases in the App_Data folder.

Check out Appendix B and Chapter 18 for more details.

Cheers,

Imar

And, of course, check out the other useful tips that the error message is giving you:
Quote:
quote: 1. If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
   2. If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database.
   3. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
   4. The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.

Hi Imar,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did check the PlanetWrox "App_Data" folder properties and gave access to the users, as mentioned in the above error. But still am getting the same error.

Also one more thing I would like to mention here is,

When I was in Ch.11 Try-It-Out(Introduction to Database), I remember attaching PlanetWrox.mdf and PlanetWrox.ldf to the App_Data folder from the C:\BegASPNET\Resources folder. It got attached at first and got displayed in the Server Explorer , whereas when I tried expanding it, I got the following error:

"Server Exploer is unable to perform this operation. See below for details: Login failed for user 'AKASMIKA-PC\AKASMIKA'.

So I had to create a new DB to proceed with the Try-It-outs.

Pls help me in fixing this up. Thanks.

>> I remember attaching PlanetWrox.mdf and PlanetWrox.ldf to the App_Data folder from the C:\BegASPNET\Resources folder.

That seems strange. You don't attach the to the App_Data folder from another folder. Either you drop them in App_Data and they get attached on the fly, or you use SQL Server Management Studio to attach a database. In the later case, App_Data is not used.

My advice:

1. Detach all relevant database attached to SQL Server

2. *Copy* the database files in the App_Data folder of your site.

3. Give full control to everyone on the App_Data folder and see if that works

4. Remove Everyone again and the give access to either Network Service (when using IIS) or to the account you use to run VWD 2008.

Hope this helps,

Imar

Yes you are correct. At first I followed as you explained in the book and dropped PlanetWrox.mdf and PlanetWrox.ldf in App_Data from the C:\BegASPNET\Resources folder. In the server explorer when I tried expanding the PlanetWrox DB to see the tables in it, I got this error "Login failed for user 'AKASMIKA-PC\AKASMIKA'.".

As I could not proceed that time, I decided to create a fresh PlanetWrox DB using SQL Server Management Studio.

Thanks
