Default Chapter 10 Try it Out (Page 328) IDE Question:

Hello,

In the Chapter 10 Try it out that starts on page 328. I noticed that after I wrapped the entire table and lablel1 elements within the nested ContentTemplate in the UpdatePanel utilizing the Markup View as illustrated. That if you switch to design view, you will get a blank page and not a visual representation of the control.

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
Table is Here
Label is Here
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>

Yet as soon as I removed the Table and label1 elements from said ContentTemplate within the UpdatePanel, you could switch to design view and get a visual representation of the control as expected.

If you run Contact.aspx, the control shows up as expected, just not in design view. Is there a setting within the IDE that needs to be changed for this to work in design view. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

This is a bug in Visual Web Developer. More info can be found here:

Hope this helps.

Imar,

Thanks for the confirmation that this is in fact a bug (Hopefully it will be fixed in VS 2010). I was kinda leaning in that direction, but wanted to check here first, just to be sure I didn't miss anything in the said try it out in your book.

Speaking of your book, It's amazing. Clear, concise, and as opposed to other books that utilize the bounce around formula, it was refreshing to actually learn from the foundation up. Keep up the good work. Hoping to see you author an Advanced ASP. NET in C# and VB title in the future on either VS 2008 or VS 2010.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Glad to hear you like the book so much. Not working on a Pro / advanced version of the book. Instead, I am working on the VS 2010 version of this book right now....

The article I linked to says they're planning to address the issue, so hopefully it gets fixed indeed.
