Default Chapter 13 opening database error

Hi Imar.

I am using SQL server 2008 as I have had it for awhile and i did try to download the SQL Express from the website suggested in your book but while installing an error occurs stating that I need a service pack 1 or something, so I resorted to using 2008 as I have used it before.

Anyway when I try and open my .mdf file in VS I get the following error:

This database file is not compatible with the current instance of SQL Server.

To resolve this issue, you must upgrade the database file by creating a new data connection, or you must modify the existing connection to this database file.

For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=235986

Is this because I am using SQL server 2008 and not 2012 or is there something else I could do? Additionally could you perhaps supply a link to a suitable download for SQL server 2012 that could install without such service packs as I cant seem to find any??

Thanx alot
Ross

Hi there,

Or something. Right.... Now I see. Not.... ;-) Please be specific.

Which MDF file? Where did it come from? Which SQL Server version? Etc.

Since I don't even know which service pack you're referring to I can't answer this. Usually though when a tool says it needs a service pack to accomplish X, you need to install the service pack or X won't work.

Ok...I understand it is a lot of information but I've kinda figured it out now...I just created a new connection to the database...Hopefully SQL Server 2008 will be able to get me through the exercises in this book.

Thanx anyway
