Error message warnings?
Can I run SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2012 side by side on the same PC without messing things up for VS2010, VS2012 or SQL Server 2008 as well as SQL Server 2012?

Yes, you can. I have 2005, 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 all running side by side on my laptop without any problems.

You have an interesting post office as that version doesn't exist yet.... ;-) 2008 R2 exists, and 2012 exists, but there's no 2012 R2....

Exactly; that's 2012, not 2012 R2 (which doesn't exist).
Cheers,

I thought that...
The developer's edition of SQL Server 2012 is it not the same as the R2 version? What is the difference? I believe that I have the R2 version of SQL Server 2008, and it is essentially a developer's edition of the database tool, is it not? Maybe you can un-confuse me a little bit on which is which here.

R2 means "Release 2" and as such is an update of the previous version. So, 2008 R2 means something like 2008.1
Of 2012, there is only the original version, no R2.
