Default Where Should I Start

A while ago I started "Beginning ASP.NET 4 in C# and VB" for VS 2010. After getting sidetracked by, but winning, two 15 round bouts with cancer, I'm ready to start over. However, VS 2013 is the new standard (I have it). My questions are; 1) should I just grab this new book and work exclusively in VS 2013; 2) use the old book but work exclusively in VS 2010; or 3) can I use the old book while working in VS 2013?

I hope that's not too confusing, and thanx for your help.

Default Never mind

I've already ordered the new book. It quickly became clear that the new book was the way to go.

Hi Arthur,

That's probably the best decision. Although many concepts from the 2010 book still apply for VS 2013, a lot has changed as well, making it harder to figure out what went were. Having a book that matches your environment will make going through the book as smooth as possible.

Have fun and if you have any questions, feel free to post them here.

Cheers,

Imar

Default Book and software versions

On a similar thread- I have bought the book 'Beginning ASP.Net 4.5 in C# and VB....the current Express version is 2013- do I send the book back and get the latest book (...4.5.1) or can I use this book with Express 2013. Thanks

The same answer probably applies to you. There are quite a number of changes between 2012 and 2013, so you'll find it a lot easier to follow along if the book matches your version of Visual Studio. As an alternative to getting the new book, you can install VS 2012 Express side by side and use that.

Cheers,

Imar
