My site uses the login code as described in Ch. 16 and all has been well.

Yesterday I logged into my web host (GoDaddy) using a unique username that I only use on the GoDaddy site. At no other site do I use the username I use at GoDaddy and I did the work that was necessary. As was well.

Also, the GoDaddy username is NOT one of my "authorized" usernames for my site.

Ok, so now today as I try and log into my site using a username that has worked in the past, I get an error message, "Login failed for user 'esherr01'." which is the username for the GoDaddy site and thus I can no longer log into my site?

It seems as though the GoDaddy username has become the "master" username and won't allow any other usernames to be used.

I did a reset on my Browser to no avail. I know this might sound strange, but is what is happening.

Any help would be appreciated. How do I make the GoDaddy username, not stay as the "master" username?

Oh, when I go to login at my site, both username and password textboxes are clear, it's just that when I type in a username and password that did work in the past, the error message says, "No you have to use this particular username"

To the above Post, I might mention that this username problem does not affect my local host version that I am working on, but does indeed affect my online version.

Does it seem likely that this might have something to do with authentication?

The short answer is that I had forgotten my username and password to connect to my Sql Server Database. I do it so rarely.

When I called my web host I was given a procedure to change/reset my username and password which I did.

After that I was able to connect to my online database to make any necessary file changes etc., but was now unable to access my online aspx pages when trying to login.

In web.config file under the connectionStrings element there is an entry for <addname> which includes a user ID and Password. Had I seen this initially I would not have needed to reset my username and password with my web host.

Thus I needed to change and upoload a new version of web.config with the new user ID and Password and the world was good once again.

Three days of fun.

Did you break something in your web.config file? Try taking one from the source code for the chapter you're working on and see if that fixes the issue.
