Default Encrypting connection strings in web.config

Imar,

In Chapter 13 you talk about connection strings in web.config but not how to encrypt the credentials. I have found an MSDN article referring to encryption. Is that what you would recommend?

BTW, when I tried to enter this in Firefox 3.6.6 I could not edit the forum text message. That is, I could not go back to any text and correct or change spellings or words, or paste the link where I wanted. Ever heard that before? This is coming via IE8.

Hi there,

Yes, you can do that if you store sensitive data (user name, password) in the connection string and / or if you have reason to believe your web.config is not safe from prying eyes.

With regard to the editor issue, try posting here: http://p2p.wrox.com/p2p-wrox-com-fee...e-mangled.html Joe posted a similar issue that you may want to add to.

Cheers.

Imar
