Default Web.Config Question

Hi Imar, this question may be a little premature, I am currently going through chapter 9 about sending email in Beginning Asp.Net 4.0 book and I see the references to gmail and some email providers requiring ssl and your email username and password. What I was wondering, is that if you have this information in your web.config file, when you finally deploy your site to your hosting provider, will we be encrypting the web.config file or what options are available to us so that you can't simply go view source or download the web.config file or contents and get the login information for your email account.

Thanks

Hi there,

I also answered this in your other thread, but for completeness sake: you can't download web.config files as by default IIS / ASP.NET blocks you from doing so. Try this to see what I mean: http://imar.spaanjaars.com/web.config

Cheers,

Imar
