Default VB and C#

Does the book use both VB and C# everywhere? Or does it use one more than the other? If I only want to use VB, will it be a problem working with this book?

Thanks.

There is both C# and VB coverage and dual code in places. I won't say everywhere because I can't say for sure that 100% of the samples are in both but I'm comfortable saying you can use the book with either C# or VB.

Default Download Code

I just took a quick look at the code that can be downloaded (RentMyWrox_Code_9781119077428.zip) and it looks like all the folder names for each chapter are labeled "CSharp".

So there is no VB code that can be downloaded?

The author is unfortunately unavailable for a couple of weeks (he planned some time off after the end of the book) but as soon as he's back he'll jump in and answer. Sorry for the delay.

Default VB.NET vs C#

The only place that VB is really referenced in the book is in Chapter 4, the chapter that goes over various programming and language constructs. There is no other code for VB in the book itself.

I just checked and the only code that is available for download is the C# version. I will verify the VB.NET version and get it over to WROX so that they can make it available for download. It should be available by the end of the month - I will re-post to this thread when it is available.

My apologies for the confusion!

So I assume that of course means C# is used everywhere. So I guess this book won't really work for me.

All of the "Try it Out" examples are in C#. There will be a VB-version download available, but the in-book activities will not show you how to create them. Much of the code (especially in the MVC Views and Web Forms Markup pages will be the same (since they are language agnostic), but the controllers and code-behind pages will be different.

I can try to put together some of the "Try it Out" sections in VB.

Unhappy Looking for the VB Code as well

I’m in the same boat as many other VB programmers who wants a book on ASP.net
So, I bought this book thinking that it’s VB friendly but the book states at the end of chapter 4: “this is the last time you’ll see VB code in this book”
As the author stated, the code for each chapter starting in chapter 5 will be available in VB. Although it’s not available yet, I hope it’ll be available soon so I can start to follow the book from chapter 5 onward. I’m hoping I don’t get disappointed with this approach as it’ll be difficult to have to refer to the code outside the book whenever C# code is introduced.
