Beg. Dreamweaver MX page 67
Hello!
Just what is probably a silly question about the first image that is placed in The Cooking Site (topleft.gif).
Why does the red line expand out side of the picture all the way across the page?? What makes it do that?? How can it extend past the cell border and not expand the cell width?
Thanks very Much!
Lori:)

I am not exactly sure what you mean...
Are you referring to an image in the book, or the steps mentioned on P67 (I don't have the MX book here, just the MX 2004 version, so I can't check.
What red line are you referring to "out side of the picture"? Doesn't the red line come from the picture?

Hi Again Imar!
I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense! I am just not sure how to explain it... You know how when you click on the <img> tag that it will highlight the image and show the little boxes where you can expand the image? Well in this case it seems that the image extends past the box that is highlighted.. The background image is just the black line, so where does the red line come from?
I am sure that it is just my lack of knowledge that is making this so confusing!! I apologize!

Most likely it's the background color of the cell / row that holds the image.
If you link to a live page with the HTML source code, I can tell for sure....
If you post questions about the Dreamweaver book, can you please specify the version (MX or MX 2004) of the book?

Hello! I put Dreamweaver MX in th Subject line, I thought that would be enough for clarification. I'll be more specific next time. I haven't learned how to put live pages up for aothers to access yet.... Can I do that without having registered a domain name yet?
Thanks.

Yeah, that should be enough. However, many people use Dreamweaver MX to refer to both the MX as the MX 2004 version.
Anyway, I though you had a host you could post to. However, after a second look it seems that http://img.photobucket.com is just for images, right?
If that's the case, just post the HTML code to this list; I'll have the images here (provided you haven't renamed them).
Cheers,
Imar

Hi Lori,
I looked at the page you posted, and I think I found the problem. The odd line you see should be the right border of the red navigation area. However, because you made the area bigger than it was supposed to be, the rest of the area is filled with "background red" causing the line to appear in the middle of the nav area.
There are a couple of things you need to fix in the HTML you posted.
Most important one:
<td width="50%" valign="top"><img src="Images/page.gif" width="87" height="216" /></td>
should be
<td width="50%" valign="top"><img src="Images/page.gif" width="59" height="199" /></td>
(notice the different width and height values).
There are a few more of these mistakes in the page. I think the easiest way to fix those is to open your page in Dreamweaver in Code View. Then open index.html from the code download in Dreamweaver as well.
Next, you can use Ctrl+Tab to switch between the open documents and it's easier to spot the actual code differences.
Cheers,
Imar
