Default Adjusting template

As a newbie, I'm working through 'Beginning Dreamweaver MX'. I've reached page 158 and I'm stuck. I've created the template for the recipes.htm page but there is a note which says "As an excercise, you might like to adjust the template so that all four pages (index.htm, news.htm, regions.htm and recipes.htm) can be based on it and then recreate the pages based on the template".

I'm sorry if I appear thick, but I don't understand how to do this. Can someone help? as I don't want to move on until I've done it. Thanks.

Hi there,

There are at least two ways to do this:

1. Open one of the existing pages and choose Modify | Templates | Apply template to page and then choose the appropriate template. Once you click select you'll be asked how you want to map your regions. Choose Document Body and then select a region from the drop down.
Afterwards, depending on your template, you may need to move some content from one template region to another.

2. Create a backup copy of the original file, then delete it. Create a new file based on the template through the File | New... dialog.
Select a template on the Templates (select the appropriate site first) tab and click Create. Then copy the contents from the original file back into the template.
Not a pretty solution, but for some files it may be easier than trying to map content to template regions...

Having fun with the book?
