Need help understanding MySQL and GTK+

i am trying to write a program that accesses MySQL. I need help understanding how to properly retrieve a single column (array) of names that I want to display in a Gtk_Combo_Box_Entry. Is anyone interested in showing me an example of doing this? Or to a website that does this.
