I ended up downloading:
php-5.2-win32-VC6-x86-latest.zip
and using LoadModule php5_module "C:\php\php5apache2_2.dll"
In httpd.conf, regular backslahes worked fine.

I can't even get it to save using notepad?
Hi there thank you for starting this thread. I have windows vista and am trying to update my httpd.conf file and I can't get it to save, i get an error stating that "Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\Conf\httpd.conf file. Can someone please help me?
I am just using notepad. Thanks

Try starting Notepad with administrive rights... That might work.
