Question Installing Apache Server - Domain question?

Hey all,

first off I have skimmed through the literature and I think this will be a great addition to my web design experience. So, I am looking for some solid answers here. Thanks in advanced

First off I have what seems to be a simple question that I cant find an answer to on the internet ( Google doesnt have all the answers lol )

I am installing the Apache software as instructed by the book. As I am installing the software I am asked about a domain name and other entries. Now, its been quite a few years since I had a server on my computer for any amount of time. Is this wanting to create a server on my computer others can visit or am i going to have to get a hosting account with someone (like hostgator) and link it to there? From my understanding I should be able to install this software directly on my machine and work from there. Once again - thanks in advanced

I am going to answer my own question in case other "noobs" have the same problem in the future

simply use your own mask IP address (like 127.0.0.0) or whatever it is for localhost
