can't seem to get the mail() function to work

I just get an erorr-there was an error... with every email code in chapter 10

anyone know why this is
these are the setting in my phpinfo.php on my hosting server

sendmail_from
[email protected]
[email protected]

sendmail_path
/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

SMTP
