Default .htaccess question

im on chapter 11 page 318. I was able to set my password but I have a question about AuthUserFile path.

My document path is C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\test

should I use this as my AuthUserFile path? and which directory should I save .htaccess file?

any help would be appreciated.

I believe that you should save .htaccess to the folder you want to protect.

.htpasswd should be saved to another location that is outside of the root directory that you want to protect.

And, yes, if you want to password protect the test folder yoru path should be pointing to the test folder.

thank you for your help.

I set my AuthUserFile to C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/test

and saved .htaccess file outside test directory and

test my program with http://localhost/test

and I still don't get a window asking for my username and password as it shown on page 320.

what could have gone wrong?
