Default to track users option click

i am a php developer. i have developeda site. i have used postnuke cms which is in php. there se a download section where user can cdownload tems. is there anyway to trace out that user click on an item and when it ask for where to store ,the user press cancel. so is there any php code which trace out on which option user clicked on as like in ASP. or whether is there any code possibel which trace out that a file is completely downloaded or not. we have code for uploading file just like i need for downloading file but with knowledge that user has cancelled that download in middle or in the starting so that we update the stats table abt no. of downloads of a file
plzzz help me ...
