Default Search - Turn Off All Sites

Hi guys,

Is it possible to turn off the all sites default scope in the search? I have a site with a custom scope set as the default, all other scopes deselected, and yet the first thing search does is to search the all sites scope.

The custom scope points to the root directory of the sharepoint site and I would like it to bipass the all sites search and just hit the custom scope first time round.

Thanks,

D

Heya Druk,

So to me it sounds like you have done everything correctly but let's confirm the steps you are taking here...

1. You created custom scopes and added them to the Search Dropdown Display group in the Scope Settings for the Site Collection (Available by selecting Search Scopes from the Site Collection Administration group on the top level site settings page.)

2. You have deselected the All Sites group from display in the Search Dropdown display group.

3. You have set your custom scope to be the default scope. This likely happened anyhow since as you said you turned off all others.

So all things being equal...you should see your search scope as the default scope in drop down.

Some things that might effect this that might be different than what I am doing:

- The template you are using. I am using a publishing template (collaboration portal)
- Whether your scope has compiled and resolved properly. Does it show any items when you look at it on the Scope settings page?
