Hi, I saw the message thread about the missing text in the Hello World exercise. This happens to me when I save & run the program from a network drive. I really want to use the network drive because that allows me to have hourly backups; too nice to give up! I've already changed the security to allow full trust to that drive and no longer get error messages when I save there. But obviously, there's more I have to do. Can you help? I have tried to trudge through the MS security stuff, but there's so much of it and so little that applies to my programs, all of which are used internally and restricted by network permissions. Thanks!

It isn't a network issue; I re-created the project on C: and rebooted, but the problem remains. It's crazy--I can get icons and a title for the messagebox window, but no actual message. Please help. This is so basic that if it doesn't work, I don't know how I'll ever trust VB.net to do anything.

Hi

Looks like this problem is related to Antivirus.
If you are running McAfee 8.0i then this problem will come up.

Try disabling Buffer Overflow Protection in VirusScan Console and run the application again and it should work.

From some other forum I got this link and it says with this hot fix it is fixed, I have not tested this

Thanks, that was the solution! I find it interesting that there is NO mention of this problem on the Microsoft Knowledge Base, although I found it, too, by searching from Google. It is not actually a bug in their product, but since it exists, it would have been nice for them to list it. And wise as well, because I very nearly pitched .net right out the window over this.
