Default Java 7 on Mac - when?

Working through this book, I discovered I can't create binary literals (Chapter 2). I'm aware that there is a developer release of Java 7 available for the mac which would support this feature, but I'm a little worried about running a half-baked Java SDK. Does anyone else have experience with this, and does anyone know when a final release version of Java 7 will be available for the Mac? So far great book by the way!
