Default start.com

Was wondering about the best way to go about creating a site like start.com. At the moment I know a bit of Javascript, .net and have started to look in to AJAX.

Are there any other technologies I should be looking in to and if not would the correct procedure be to use DOM scripting to control the layout of the page etc and ajax to pull in the news feeds.

Your first step should be to learn JavaScript at a deeper level. Without that knowledge, you'll have a hard time getting started. I'd suggest Professional JavaScript for Web Developers (my other book), to get you going.
