Default Two different tables, same report

Hi

I need to create a report that uses two different tables. So, to visualise this, on one half of the report, the top half will be data from the first table and the bottom section will be from the second table. I understand there has to be a link between the two.

* Question one. Should I create a join on the two tables and then place the individual fields on the report or how do I split the grid that is placed on the report once I select the data source ?

Thanks
