Default Chapter 1 - Getting Started - Adding Connection

I am trying to follow the steps in Chapter 1 to add a connection.

When I click the "Test Connection" button an error message is returned. Message reads:

"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connection to SQL 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.(provider: SQL network interfaces, error:26 - Error locating server/instance specified)

I reviewed the settings for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, but don't have the depth of knowledge to answer this issue myself.

I have Windows XP home Edition installed.

I am trying to due my training on my home pc. Remote connections are not something I am concerned about at this time.

I'm a newbie at this.

Unless you have an actual database file for it to connect to, you should get that kind of error. The example was just to show you the process you would follow to attach another database.
