Although this is certainly doable, it's not an easy thing to do. You'll need a reasonable good understanding of the control architecture and their designer classes.
You'll need to create a custom ControlDesigner class that you associate with your control. Here's a starting point to get you familiar with the terminology, so you get other terms to Google for:
